Class of 2016~Mrs. Casady~May 18,2016
Biography
"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment"
|
I came into Great Oak High School as a sophomore in the fall of 2013. At first, I was worried and unsure of what to expect in the foreign body of 3,000 students. Instead of being preoccupied on the future I should've been focused on the present moment because the last few years flew by faster than imagined. The challenging classes, overlapping extracurricular activities, and all-nighters were worth it, considering the the exceptional education I received, brilliant teachers I admired, and kind-hearted friends that supported me. The skills I learned in this experience such as determination, perseverance, diligence, and confidence will be valuable for the rest of my life. Through this adventure, I'm prepared to attend college in the fall of 2016 and face whatever obstacles that may be in my way.

College and Career Plans
In the fall of 2016, I will be attending the University of California San Diego (UCSD). I will major in biology on the pre-medicine track to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a pediatrician. To prepare myself for the medical field I shadowed my uncle, a general physician, in Ontario, Canada. He allowed me to accompany him and observe how he treats patients with various illnesses. We examined x-rays, measured blood pressure, and checked blockages in lungs. In Sri Lanka, I toured a cardiac catheterization lab, where I was taught functions of the heart and witnessed an open heart surgery. I also volunteered at a community medicine department at the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine(SAITM). Along with a group of doctors, I was able to visit impoverished villages and find solutions to their economic or sanitation problems. I hope to find research opportunities in the San Diego area once I begin college to establish a basis for the rest of my career.
